On this week's 'sode, we talk about hamstrings, budgie, a certain drive in LA, a pepper experiment, lead, and how we've been meditating. Honestly though if you don't want some wicked spoilers for the David Lynch piece Mulholland Drive, prrrrrobably skip this one.

May 29, 2017

On this week's episode, we start off with some real clever wordplay. We freaking brainstormed all day guys so you better like it. Then we talk about precious metals, a field trip, and the correct way to raise babies (hint: treat 'em like you would a stray kitten, at least at first). All that and a BRAND NEW MUSICAL DROP! Geez how much more could you people want, anyways?

May 22, 2017

Now how many y'all like air conditioning? Bad caps the size of a grenade led to problems this week, but no fears. Tom kept it together when the repairmen came to visit. Tom finishes the Duolingo tree and KA talks English at a French meetup. KA accidentally jumps her horse. Tom extols the virtues of western saddles despite knowing nothing at all about horses. There's also blood pressure talk for you “blood heads” out there... you know who you are.

May 15, 2017

Episode 53 is here, and someone in our household is a murderer! Plus, Tom breaks his body. KA transitions to a database lifestyle. Tom makes a pretty dumb metaphor while KA talks about microbiomes. A million-dollar idea is developed. We wonder at how little we knew, and how little we ever will know.

May 8, 2017

At long last, we're back! KA saw some glaciers in Iceland, and Tom rehashes old material. Pretty much par for the course. We talk about horse stuff and making pot roast (not out of horses, out of other animals, although that makes it no less cruel, really). We also mention the world's dumbest car crash.

Apr 17, 2017

On this week's episode it's too hot. We hadn't turned the AC on yet. We talk about a few French movies. We also talk about WWI for some reason. We talk about lacking a grown-up utensil. Do they have AC in France? Is everyone there just sweating? It's too hot...

Apr 10, 2017

Episode 50 is here, and we have an extend review of a movie. Also a tiny review of a different movie we can barely remember. We also talk about billionaires and bridges. Folks, you don't wanna miss this one... and I ain't even biased. I said wicked a few times which I'm kinda self-conscious about. Whoops.

Apr 3, 2017

On this week's episode, we speak some French, but also possibly some Spanish by accident? We also talk a whole bunch about learning languages, learning virtual (programming) languages, languishing languages, and other stuff involving l's and g's. We talk about novelization of movies. I think I told a story about Jaws for, at minimum, the second time on the podcast. Pretend it's an inside joke instead of my forgetting what I'd already said. Later. I'm very tired.

Mar 27, 2017

Episode 48 is here, and we're learning French! All of us are learning French! We're not actually sure if there's any reason to at all yet, but we've totally jumped the gun. Hoo boy are we gonna be disappointed if we don't get to go to France. Also, we talk about our weekend getaway at a cabin. It's good stuff. Thank God the mosquitoes aren't alive yet. Imagine a world with no mosquitoes. Holy moly. Good stuff.

Mar 20, 2017

On this week's episode of I'm Familiar With That, we talk about how we don't really know what we're doing, even after all these episodes. We talk about watches and planks, and when you might need them to save your life. We talk about trains and tents. We talk a lot about how to leave your non-free life behind, and join the FOSS community. You really should, people. Why we gotta keep telling you this stuff??? BTW the dude in question was an Italian real estate developer, not a Greek shipping magnate. My bad.

Mar 13, 2017

On this week's episode, we talk about different types of headphones. We talk about predation by mountain lions. We talk about Etsy. Tom retells a story from another podcast. And in what is the crowning jewel of this episode, we talk about inventory management. Folks, you're not gonna want to miss this one!

Mar 6, 2017

On this week's episode, there's a lot of talk about games. Mobile games, '90's-era computer games, board games... we really run the gamut. I got a book called a gamut of games, did you know that? It doesn't come up in the episode but now I wish it had. There's other stuff, too. API's and whatnot.

Feb 27, 2017

On this week's episode of I'm Familiar With That, we talk about a web platform called Hugo. KA talks a lot about different types of javascript or something. It's all pretty confusing to me. We also update you on the most desirable flavors (or flavours, for those of you “across the pond”) of La Croix. Still wish they sold Polar in Atlanta... sigh.

Feb 20, 2017

Boy oh boy, we're excited to get our income tax! Uh, I mean tax return. Uh, I mean tax refund. There's a lot of talk about W-2's, W-4's, quarterly estimates, and other such on this week's 'sode. You'll learn the url of our website that is technically up and running. You'll learn about the best freaking videogame of all time, EU4. Who knows, you might even learn a thing or two about... that crazy little thing called life.

Feb 13, 2017

On this week's episode, we talk about a British series from the telly (read that with a British accent please). A bunch of depressing talk about suicide as well, because of a particularly morbid podcast KA found. I complain that a particular subreddit is dumb, which is like complaining that water is wet. By the way I write all of these without input from KA, that's just my cross to bear, I guess. Good luck listening!!!!

Feb 6, 2017

On this week's episode, we both have a cough. I think we keep it together for most of the episode. If we're found dead please test us for black mold or something. Also we've got more movie reviews. Lotta NESCAC talk on this 'sode. Have fun listening, listeners.

Jan 30, 2017

Episode 40 is here and with it comes some editorial control. I had to cut some parts related to politics. But don't worry, there's plenty of other sweet, sweet content. You'll get pillow talk (of a variety), and parrot talk as well (literal, this time). We review a movie that come out over 3 decades ago, and discuss the different eras based on deceased monarchs. It's a pretty good pod.

Jan 23, 2017

On this week's I'm Familiar With That (Episode 39), we make up for last week's absence with a whole smattering of topics. I saved them in my phone, most of them weren't that interesting. We also talk about this march we went to that has me feeling very sleepy. This will have to do for a description. One of the topics is how fluffy birds can be. OK later y'all.

Jan 9, 2017

I'm Familiar With That's 38th episode includes a bunch of movie and music criticism. Have you ever wondered how many “stars” The Secret Life of Pets deserves? What about some other movies, as well? We also talk about musical taste. You'll learn about AC/DC and The Talking Heads. There's a pretty long segment about how to fix a toilet that KA probably thinks I'm gonna cut, but... I'm not. So, just sit through it. There's better stuff on the other side. I did enough editing already.

Jan 2, 2017

As the great bard himself once sang, “the years they are a-changing,” so just like good ol' Robby Z predicted, a new year is about to dawn. We start off by popping a cork, and then we taste-test some of the worst Kroger has to offer in its champagne aisle. We talk more about Thomas Piketty. We review a few video games, and a movie as well. Give it a listen, you might learn a thing or two. And to tie in with my Dylan reference, we relay a story about someone else's Nobel prize.

Dec 26, 2016

I'm Familiar With That is back, with a brand new attack, which has taken the form of a thirty-sixth (36) episode. We catch up with some old friends from the news. We do not review “The Secret Life of Pets.” There's economics talk, as per usual. One of Tom's favorite podcasts is revealed. By the way, the post-processing was a bit different this week, so if it sounds terrible, let me know and I'll fix it in the future. Trying to make it sound more “professional,” which is industry slang for “compressed to hell so that people listening on earbuds can hear the quieter parts, at the expense of any sort of reasonable sound quality.” That's why the industry shortened it, you see... that phrase is way too long.

Dec 19, 2016

In Episode 35, we pick up some loose ends from last week and thread them back together. Or, however that metaphor is supposed to work. There's some disagreement on what movies are good, and whether or not spoilers are important. Dissecting the elements of mystery. All that on this week's show!

Dec 12, 2016

In this week's episode (number 34, dontcha know) we have several breaks in quick succession. Dog treat calories are considered. Rats return. Allergies. Anti-Histamines. How long should you keep cards? Memories of a social-security-dependent Grandma. All that and just a tiny bit more, on I'm Familiar With That.

Dec 5, 2016

Larry Bird doesn't make an appearance but, as always when the number 33 appears, he's in our hearts. This is a totally uneven episode because we took too long of a break. Practice makes perfect and time off makes a bunch of talk about... recipes? Dog bones? We talked about Cuba at the end and things got interesting but then we were too hungry, so, maybe we'll remember to come back to that. I can only hope this won't be the new baseline for show quality... Is this a good write-up? Is this making people want to listen?

Nov 14, 2016

With episode 32 here, it's time to celebrate a birthday. Also, our bathroom is repainted. Those are the two big news items of the week, right? We've seen a confederate memorial and it touched a nerve with Tom. Swiss people probably shouldn't be having confederate flags. Jesus it's impossible to get away from politics these days. Speaking of which, the story of His birth! Just a quick little re-telling, courtesy of KA. All that and much, MUCH more...
